About this Remedy
Croton lechleri sap — Sangre de Drago, used across Latin America for wound healing, spiritual protection, and mal aire. The resin is extracted from Croton draconoides and Croton lechleri, native to the Amazon basin. Adopted into Mexican curanderismo in communities with strong Amazonian trade influence — coastal Veracruz, the Yucatán, and border communities with South American connections. The red color carries symbolic weight: red is life force, blood, and protective energy. Dragon's Blood addresses mal aire (bad air, energetic infection) directly — the resin creates an energetic seal. Badianus Manuscript (1542) records Croton species in the Aztec pharmacopeia; the 1577 Sahagún supplement extends the record, noting red resins among the most powerful spiritual protectors of the Nahua healing tradition.
Traditional Use
Applied directly to wounds — the resin seals and protects like a natural bandage (documented antimicrobial properties). Burned as resin in limpia for mal aire — the red smoke creates a barrier against harmful energy. Used in the final limpia stage to close and protect. Applied to soles of feet and palms in limpia seca (dry cleansing). Placed on thresholds and windowsills as protective barrier. A little goes a very long way — extraordinarily potent.
